Joan Elizabeth Boorman

Boorman - Joan Elizabeth, aged 72 of Comox, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 26th, 2002. Joan is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband of nearly 50 years, Sam; sons Jim (Renate) of Burnaby, Gordon (Julie) of San Diego, California; daughter Mary (David) Demeter of Calgary and son Phil (Tracey) of Peachland, B.C.; grandchildren Natalie, Alisa, Andrew, Christy, Lynn, Brittany, Michelle and Lauren; her brother David (Doreen) Gilmour of Calgary, as well as her nieces and nephews.


Joan’s career was nursing, during which she had the distinction of being the first home care nurse in Dawson Creek where she and Sam lived prior to their move to the Comox Valley in 1981.


She enjoyed leisure activities such as swimming, outdoor pursuits of many kinds and more recently, oil painting with which she became an accomplished artist.


Throughout her life, Joan was an active supporter of community activities, volunteering tirelessly with organizations such as the Filberg Festival Committee, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and many others. She and Sam were also members of Comox United Church, where she sang in the choir.


A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of Joan’s life will take place on Saturday, June 1st at 2:00 pm at Comox United Church with the Reverend Maggie Enwright, officiating.
