Jim Rickson

September 26, 2004

Rickson, Jim

Every once in a while, a person is born whose many gifts will reach far beyond what he realizes. My husband was one of them. It is with great sadness and loss that our family and friends mourn the passing of Jim Rickson. Jim was born in the Comox Valley and has given much of his life to the community he so loved. His passion for teaching and the love he showed to each and every one of his students was one of his many gifts. It was a lucky student who found him/herself in the classroom of the “wonderful Mr. Rickson”. Jim was a dedicated thespian and took great joy in the children and adults he worked with in Rainbow Youth Theatre and the Courtenay Little Theatre. Jim was also a talented tennis player and had the uncanny knack of making his partners and opponents feel good about playing, whether or not they could “return a serve”, or get that “volley”. Jim’s idea of winning was seeing a smile on another person’s face.

The incredible outpouring of love and support since Jim’s passing have shown the depth of his service to the community and of his amazing spirit. Those of us that have had the joy of having Jim in our lives will, although be saddened by his loss, know that there are indeed people who judge their success by the number of people they can make smile, and care enough to make it happen.

Jim will be sadly missed by far too many people to list, but will have made an equal number of people’s lives better by simply having known him.

You left us far too soon, but thank you for sharing your gifts with so many. We know you have found peace Jim!!!!

Services will be held on Saturday, October 2nd, at the Comox United Church at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by a gathering at Kin Beach Park.

Your condolences will be approved within one business day. You will need a . Please email us if you have any questions.
