January 9, 2002

Little, James Reginald (Reg)

James Reginald (Reg) Little, on January 9th, 2002 at home in Courtenay, BC, beloved husband of Elspeth, loving father of Deborah Little and Kevin Little, grandfather of Brianna Little, brother of Irene Reith of Winnipeg, Manitoba, uncle of Linda Johnson and David Reith of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his son Andy, father William Alexander Little, mother Eleanor Little (Jennings), brother William Robert Little and brother-in-law Douglas Reith. He will be missed by his close friends Gord Brady and Len Kuchynski.

Born May 9th, 1931 in Winnipeg, Reg’s forefathers came to Canada from Ireland and settled in the Ottawa Valley during the potato famine of the 1840’s.

Reg was an employee of Air Canada for 35 years and retired to the Comox Valley in 1985. Until his son Andy’s tragic accident in 1993 and ultimate death in 1999, Reg involved himself in community affairs no matter where he lived. He was a founder of the St. James, Manitoba Junior Chamber of Commerce, Comox Valley Crime Stoppers and the Comox Valley Citizens on Patrol Society. Among his many associations he was the past master of Greenfield Park Masonic Lodge 133, Quebec, the Comox Valley Shrine Club, Korean Veterans Association and past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17. Reg was a member of the Evergreen Seniors in Courtenay. He was a staunch advocate of a better health care system for BC and wrote many letters over the past decade urging politicians and administrators at all levels to get a Cat scan and MRI for the Comox Valley.

Reg was president and founder of the International Word Processing Association which ultimately had 32 chapters in various cities throughout the world, headquartered in Willow Grove, PA. He was an advisor to industry on work simplification and improvements and lectured extensively throughout North America.

Rather uniquely, Reg was permitted through negotiation to retain his employment with the airline while founding and operating his own management consulting firm, Reg Little and Associates Ltd., with offices and staff based in Boston, Fairfax Station, Virginia, Montreal and Winnipeg. Among his major contracts Reg led the administrative reorganization of the U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission, some components of the U.S. Army and certain areas of the Federal Trade Commission. He also contributed in major degree to the formation and launching of Air Jamaica in 1969.

Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude go out to the compassionate, sensitive and caring homecare nurses and home support workers without whose help we would not have been able to keep Reg at home during his illness. Special thanks to Hospice volunteer worker Phil Lander. Funeral Services were held from PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME, 440 England Avenue on January 14th, 2002 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Fred Massey officiating. Cremation. At Reg’s request there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital building fund, Comox, would be appreciated by the family. PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM has been entrusted with the arrangements.
