June 27, 1937 - July 6, 2023
In loving memory ~
James (Jim) Dodd passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family in Comox on July 6th, 2023, at the age of 86. Jim was born on June 27th, 1937, in Trochu, Alberta, to Louise and Frederick Dodd. Jim will be greatly missed by Evelyne, his wife of 64 years; his two sons, Ryan (Jean) and Ron (Karen); and his grandchildren, Alison (Brian), James (Stephanie), Kailey, and Chris, will all remember him fondly. Jim is survived by his sister Alice (Roger), sister-in-law Helene, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Rosemary, and brothers Frank and Fred (Florence).
Jim's military career took him to many places around the globe, including Egypt, Bermuda, Romania, Alert, Ottawa, Whitehorse, Winnipeg, Chibougamau, Chilliwack, and Comox. While stationed in Churchill, Manitoba, Jim met Evelyne Irene Smith. They were married on August 30th, 1958. Once he retired from his position as Chief Warrant Officer with the military in 1984, Jim worked for Public Works in Winnipeg. After retiring for a second time, Jim and Evelyne moved out west to Comox to be closer to family and have access to year-round golf.
Over the years, Jim played many sports, including hockey, badminton, curling, baseball, bowling, and darts, but his true passion was always golf. He clocked many hours on the golf course with friends and family, and he also achieved six holes-in-one. Jim and Evelyne travelled together to Scotland, Germany, Australia, and Arizona, but their favourite trips were their river cruises taken with friends and family in Europe.
Jim had a dry sense of humour and was always more than happy to spend time with family and friends over a cup of coffee, a handful of peanuts, or a cold beer. He had a big smile and always made everyone feel welcome in his presence. We will miss him deeply and are so grateful for all of the time we were able to spend with him.
Thank you to Dr. Steve Matous and all of the staff at the Views in Comox for their excellent care and guidance.
As per Jim's wishes, there will be no service.
