Jimmy died peacefully at home in his sleep on September 9, 2003, after a long battle. Jimmy was born June 12, 1921, of Scottish heritage in Comox, BC and went to school in the Tsolum area. He was well-known in Wilcox Meat Market for many years as well as working in the logging and fishing industry. He joined the Air Force in 1942, and was married in Courtenay, BC on August 4, 1944, to Ruby Robertson. He moved his family from Vancouver Island to the Mainland in 1959, where he managed an Overwaitea meat department, he worked at many jobs on the Mainland and then bought Industrial Battery in Nanaimo, selling batteries up and down the island and on the mainland. He was a very active service club member in Courtenay of the Masonic Hiram Lodge #10, and the Kin Club. Later in Nanaimo he was active in Ashlar Lodge #3, a life member of the Shiners, and Gyro Club. His love of the water and nature inspired him to be a member of the Nanaimo Yacht Club where he enjoyed boating and fishing. In his retirement years he enjoyed the social aspect of the Provost Club and the Buffeters coffee club.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Ruby, his daughters Julie (Bob) MacArthur, Vicky Lynn Mitchell and his son Bruce (Judy) Mitchell. His grandchildren Craig (Carin) Richardsen, Jamie (Gescina) Richardsen, Amy Mitchell, Mike Richardsen, Rosalie Mitchell and his step-grandchildren Rob (Deneen) McArthur, Seychelle and Luke, Kari (Russ) Stevenson, Ariel and Erik, James (Heather) McArthur and his great granddaughter Paxton Richardsen. He is also survived by his older sister Chrissy Jakobsson of Nakusp, BC and many nieces and nephews.

His Celebration of Life will be held at The First Memorial Funeral Service, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC, Friday, September 12, 2003 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers any donations should be made to the Shriners.
