James Andrew Hogan

Hogan - James Andrew (Big Jim) passed away March 16, 2002. Jim was born January 14, 1919 in Edmonton, AB. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Comox; his children Timothy (Carol), grandchildren Shannon and Patrick of Calgary, AB; Daniel (Sherri), grandson Thomas, of Charlottetown, PEI; Kevin of Edmonton, AB; Kathy of Edmonton, AB; and Michael of Vancouver, BC. He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude of Victoria, BC; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Louise and brothers Jack and Dennis.


Big Jim was winner of the first Canadian Junior Golf Tournament in 1938, and is was the first time a person west of Ontario won a National Men’s Amateur event in Canada. He served in WWII with the RCNVR. He was an administrative officer for the Government of Alberta in Hospital Services.


After his retirement in 1984, Jim and Pat moved to Comox. He grew up in Jasper and though times were tough, this is where Big Jim developed his lifelong love for the game of golf. No matter where he was, he always made his pilgrimage to his little piece of heaven ~ Jasper.


Prayers for Big Jim will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in Piercy’s Funeral Chapel, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay, BC. Flowers gratefully declined but donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, V9N 1P2.
