Irma Augustine Wilson passed away peacefully on March 14, 2004 with her husband of 63 years, James E. (Jim) Wilson by her side. Irma was born May 31st, 1916 in Sudbury, Ontario to Henry and Bernadette Clavette. She was the eldest of their 5 daughters. Irma is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim, sons: Paul J. Wilson (Glenda), John E. Wilson (Joan); daughter Jeanne Wilson; grandchildren: Michelle Bangert (Wilf), Dan Wilson (Tracy), Lene’ Wilson (Ton), and Sara Wilson (Dave); and great grandchildren: Brayden Bangert, Owen Wilson, and Evan Wilson. She was predeceased by her grandson Jim Wilson, and her sisters: Vivian, Velma, Jeanne and Rae. At age 16, Irma entered the University of Toronto. The following year she attended Normal School in North Bay, Ontario to become a teacher. She taught school in Gogama and Espanola, Ontario. She married in 1940 in Sudbury and moved to Cumberland with her young family in 1943. Irma taught school at Puntledge and Minto. She worked at the Cumberland Hospital as a bookkeeper, medical transcriber and Medical Records Librarian. She later worked for the Cumberland Medical Clinic. Irma was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Cumberland. She was president of the Catholic Women’s League. She taught catechism and was the organist and choirmaster for the church until its amalgamation with Christ the King Catholic Church in Courtenay. Irma was the organist at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church at C.F.B. Comox. She was the founding member of the Comox Valley Birthright Association, a member of the Cumberland Hospital Board and taught Conversational French at night school in Courtenay. For the past year Irma was a resident of Cumberland Lodge, where her husband joined her last month. She received wonderful care from all the lodge staff, for which the family is very grateful. The family also wish to thank all of Irma’s friends and caregivers for their kind, loving and thoughtful assistance over the past few years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 17th, 2004 at Christ the King Catholic Church with interment to follow at Cumberland Cemetery. PIERCY’S/MT.
