August 25, 2004

Robson, Irene Julia

(nee: Craigie)

1923 - 2004

Irene was born on July 7th, 1923 at Sandwick, Orkney Islands, Scotland and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 25th, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Tom in 1998, also by her parents John and Mary Ann, sisters: Ethel, Gladys, and Nina, and brothers: Jimmy, Gordon, Douglas, Aldridge, and Lawrence. Irene is survived by her loving son Don and wife Colleen, of Courtenay, and grandchildren: Daryl and Kimberley, of Nanaimo, BC. Irene will also be fondly remembered by many dear relatives, friends, neighbors and caregivers.

Born and raised in the Orkney Islands, Irene and Tom were married in 1942. They immigrated to Oshawa, Ontario in 1954, where Irene worked at Oshawa General Hospital until becoming a stay home wife and mother with the birth of their son. In 1968 they moved to and have since resided in Courtenay, BC.

When Tom became ill, he and Irene were introduced to the Comox Valley Stroke Club where Irene spent time as a volunteer and lifelong friendships began. Irene spent many hours in the garden, was an avid fan of curling, and could also be found enjoying a good wrestling match on TV. She enjoyed the hours with friends hoping one at their table would be the next to shout Bingo.

For the past 14 months, Casa Loma was home for Irene. Time spent at the Laughing Ladies table was always a bright spot in her day. The outstanding and compassionate care she received from staff and homecare aids was second to none. Irene’s family would like to thank everyone at Casa Loma for the wonderful care and assistance provided.

Thanks also to Dr. R. Ptak and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the many hours spent caring for Irene. Heartfelt gratitude to the Emergency Department, 3rd Floor, I.C.U., Physio, housekeeping and kitchen staff for the professional and personal touch provided. A Service of Remembrance was held for Irene on Monday, August 30th, 2004 at PIERCY’S - MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comox Valley Stroke Club, 1741 Grant Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 2T6.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to PIERCY’S - MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM.
