BOOTH, IRENE FLORENCE HINDES

1913-2003

Rene passed away peacefully, November 20, 2003 at St Joseph’s Hospital after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer.

Rene was born July 26, 1913 in London, England to Captain Robert and Florence Hardy. Mum will be dearly missed by her two daughters Vivienne Webster and Marilyn Booth and her son-in-law Hank Sawchuk, grandchildren: Sally, Robert, Donna, Erica, Susan, Mark, Adria, Nancy and Doug, as well as her beloved great grandchildren: Emily, Agnes, Mary, Oliver, Ashley, Harrison, Adrienne and Kenny; who she was so proud of and loved to be with. Rene was predeceased by her dearly loved husband Sidney, her infant son, Jeremy Christopher, her parents, her sisters, Phyllis and Vera, her brothers Robert, and Peter and her beloved dog, Buffy.

Mum and Dad met and married in England in 1936. During the last war Dad served in the British Navy on the HMS Glory in the Pacific, bringing home many POW’s from internment camps in the Pacific, while Mum survived the blitz and the bombing of London. Mum, and her small children, were bombed out of their home three times during the war. Many frightening nights were spent with her infant children in air raid shelters.

In 1957 Mum and Dad emigrated from Edmonton, London, England to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada a move they were always happy they made. Mum worked almost all her life as a secretary, loved a party, a good joke with a glass of wine and a cigarette in her hand. She died the way she lived fighting all the way.

Special thanks to Dr. Janet Green, Frances McAlonan, staff at Community and Seniors Care, Glacierview Lodge and 3rd floor staff at St Joseph’s Hospital.

According to her wishes, private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Piercy’s Funeral Home and The Memorial Society of BC. Mum and Dad’s ashes will be scattered together at a later date. For those wishing, donations in her memory may be made to the Comox Valley SPCA, 1668 Ryan Road, Comox BC V9N 7Z8, as Mum was a great lover of animals.

Rest in Peace.
