Pearce, Iona Mary
(nee: MacDonald)
Passed away peacefully August 22, 2002 surrounded by the love of her children.
Mum was born in Pentiction and spent a happy childhood and early adulthood in Fanny Bay on Vancouver Island. She served in the army during WWll and subsequently married John Pearce in 1947 in Courtenay. After several moves, they settled in New Westminster in 1960, expanding their family to nine children over the years. Mum was widowed in 1969 and overcame many adversities to raise her family by herself. From her we have learned that you never give up on your children, for she never did, even as we moved away and had families of our own.
Our mother loved the humour of Lucille Ball, staying at her trailer in Deep Bay and her family getting together. She had a quiet strength and no-nonsense view of the world and she loved us all without question or judgment. We will miss her deeply.
There will be no memorial service, but friends are welcome to share their memories of Iona MacDonald Pearce with her family on Sunday, September 1, 2002 at the Bowser Royal Canadian Legion, Bowser, B.C. between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Because Mum loved children, in lieu of flowers donations in her name to B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
