Surrounded by her loving
daughter, Elaine, and son-in-law, Art, Hazel passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a severe stroke.
Hazel was born in Toronto, Ontario, and spent most of her life in Orillia, Ontario. She spent the last 14 years in Courtenay living with her daughter and son-in-law. Hazel is predeceased by her husband Garfield (1985), brother Alden and sister-in-law Rosalind, and brother Gordon.
She will be missed dearly by her daughters: Lynne Arbic (Jacques) of Timmins, Ontario, Elaine Stupendick (Art) of Courtenay, BC; her son Dennis Dakin (Heather) of Newmarket, Ontario; grandchildren: Stacey, Carrie-Lynne, Bill, Ian, Jason and Tara; and greatgrandchildren: Ashley, Alyssa and Celina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel lived an adventuresome life filled with travel, hobbies, celebrations and family activities. She was a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmothers and friend and will be missed for her bright-eyed smile and child-like curiosity by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was a life member of the CWL.
Prayers will be said at 7 pm on Thursday, February 23, as well as a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 26 at 2pm, both at the Comox Valley Funeral Home and Crematorium. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, February 24 at 11am at Christ the King Catholic Church.
