In Loving Memory ~
Harvey Eric Le Grand of Campbell River, BC passed peacefully on Dec.12, 2023 at the age of 72. He was surrounded by his family members who were all caring for him in his final days.
Harvey was born Sept.18, 1951 in New Carlisle, Quebec to Harry and Eileen Le Grand. He was their 2nd child born out of 4 and leaves to mourn his older sister Karen (Larry) Kiley, younger brother Allan (Heather) Le Grand, and youngest sister Linda (Robert) Chapados and many nieces and nephews.
Dad rode out of Quebec on his 750 Suzuki motorcycle, heading west in the early 70's. He made stops in various northern mining towns to operate heavy shovels and tank drills.
He met his future wife, Hyacinth, in 1977, a newly recruited nurse to Canada from England. They married in 1979 and started a young family and new careers together in Morinville, Alberta. They were raising their 3 children while Dad was offered a promotion to Calgary for Trans Alta Utilities.
On a vacation to Vancouver Island, they fell in love with the coast and decided to move to the Comox Valley. Harvey built two beautiful homes for his family while living in the Valley. He started his own cedar fencing/landscaping business which he operated for 25 years up until his retirement. Much of his work is still standing in the Comox Valley area today.
For fun, dad loved winter vacations in Mexico with mom, boating to Tree Island, watching the jets at the runway, restoring almost any old motorcycle he could find, coffee with his close friends and restoring his 1940 Hudson.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife Hyacinth, of 44 years; loving children: Robert (Brianne) Le Grand, Kim Le Grand, and Andrew (Justine) Le Grand; loving grandchildren: Lucas, Clara, Caila, Penelope, and new baby girl arriving March 2024.
The family would like to deeply thank Dr. Bakshi for his care over the years.
We also thank Dr. Farias for her end-of-life care for dad.
We would also like to thank the Victoria Cancer Clinic for helping dad beat Prostate cancer in 2019 and for their continued care and support in the last 4 years.
We also like to thank the Campbell River Palliative Care and their South Home Care team, Christy and Gina, who came by at the end of their shifts to make sure Dad was comfortable.
Also, thank you to dad's dietician Lisa who helped get him the nutrition he needed. Thank you all.
As is his wish, no formal gathering will be held.
