Harold Flint

April 3, 1909 - March 15, 2005

Harold Flint went to be with his Lord peacefully on a sunny day on March 15, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox. Harold was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England on April 3, 1909, the fifth child of Tom and Esther Flint. Beth, Wilfred, Tom, Leonard, and Laura have gone on before him. He is survived by his sister Hilda in Nanaimo, BC; his loving wife Olive Faye predeceased him in 1996. Harold leaves behind his son Harold (wife Lynda), children David (wife Lisa and children Matthew and Devyn), Jeanine Murray (husband Chris and children Keely, Sophie and Christian), Melissa Pigeon (husband Barry and children Austin, Tannis and Darci); Allen (wife Jean), children Dianne Hawkins (children Caitlyn and Jordan), Edward Flint (wife Rose and children Ashley, Ryan and Celine); Beryl (husband Jack Macaulay, and children Heather Taylor (husband will, children Kendall Jones, Chelsea Jones, Amanda Taylor and Reid Taylor), Sandy Macaulay (wife Colleen and children Amanda and Justin), Kenneth Macaulay (passed away 1984), Christine Rayner (husband Grant and children Jared, Ben, Jody, Luke, Abby, Isaac and Shekinah), Grant Macaulay (wife Kristine and children Kenny, Cameron and Aiden); and Patricia (husband Peter Hildebrand), children Mark Hildebrand (wife Rebecca and child Josiah), Gwen Fletcher (husband Rick) and Vaughn Hildebrand (wife Wendy).

Harold immigrated to Canada with his brothers Wilfred and Tom in 1927 to Culp, in the Peace River area where they homesteaded. He met his wife Olive (Prichard), who was a school teacher there, and they married in 1936. He served 5 years in the RCAF working in the Post Office during that time. They moved to Union Bay in 1947 where he worked for Fraser and Horne (grocery store) and Cyril Burns in Courtenay, moving to Black Creek in 1960 to run a grocery store there. In Union Bay the family worshiped at Union Bay United Church until moving to Black Creek where they attended the Black Creek MB Church. Later, after moving to Courtenay, they attended the St. George’s (Courtenay) United Church making many and dear friends wherever they went. The last few years were spent swimming, travelling and enjoying his family. He volunteered at a number of senior’s and extended care homes in the Comox Valley playing piano, singing (folk songs and songs of faith) and visiting — cheering everyone he met, driving (he still had his driver’s license) to each place (”Attention please, this car is backing up”). Harold was the Citizen of the Year for the Comox Valley in 1999. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. We’ll see him in Glory.

There will be a Memorial Service to celebrate his life at Black Creek MB Church on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005 at 2:00 PM. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Gideons, or to Y.A.N.A.

Arrangements are in care of PIERCY’S - MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM.
