Hollis, George (Tex) Raymond

1922 — 2005

George went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 31, 2005. Dad was born in New York on September 13, 1922 and grew up in Mexico and Texas. During W.W.II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Canadian Army, Parachute Battalion. Dad and Mom farmed near Lauder, Manitoba after the war. In the early 1950’s Dad joined the R.C.A.F. and served with pararescue (now search and rescue) and then became a survival school instructor. After retiring from the military, he and mom became apartment managers for a few years and then went back to farming north of Courtenay. While still farming, Dad worked for the town of Comox in Public Works and the Parks Dept. for 10 years. George was predeceased by his wife, Eda, in 1996 after 51 years of marriage. He is survived by his children G. “Andy” (Leona) Raymond, Fred Raymond, Georgia (Doug) McMillan, Dawn (Don) Dancocks, daughters-in-law Eleanor Lewis and Georgi Raymond, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, also survived by sister-in-law Heddy Turnbull of Estevan, Sask. and Walter Penno of Hartney, Man. He considered them as if they were his own sister and brother. Also many nieces, nephews and their families.

Dad was an honest and caring and you could always count on him to follow through with his commitments. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Piercy’s Funeral Home with a reception to follow in Piercy’s Glacier Tea Room. He will be laid to rest at a later date with the love of his life Eda at Lauder, Manitoba. Special thanks to all the friends and neighbors who visited Dad in the last while. Thanks also to Dr. McNie and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital on the third floor. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Canadian Pararescue Association c/o G.
