Ferraby - George Melvin, 1939-2002, passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, June 1st, 2002. Mel was born in Bassano, Alberta, educated in both Alberta and British Columbia and attended U.B.C. before joining the RCAF in 1959, serving as a navigator until his retirement in 1984. During his military career he was stationed in Comox, Lahr, Bagotville and Edmonton returning to Comox in 1978. Mel was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, skiing and golfing. He was predeceased by his father, George Lawrence Ferraby and will be sadly missed by his loving family; mother Maye; wife Heather; sons Jonathan (Dragona) and David (Carolyn); grand-daughter Allyson; grandson Benjamin; brother Lorne (Gisle) and nephews George and Greg.
A gathering of family and friends in celebration of Mel’s life will take place on Saturday, June 8th from 2-5 pm at the Officer’s Mess, C.F.B. Comox. Friends are welcome to participate and share special memories.
