Dennis, George Henry (Denny)
Denny passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, October 2, 2005 at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay following a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Denny was born in Brookdale, Manitoba February 18, 1925, the second of four children to Ben and Nora Dennis. He attended school in Brookdale completing his secondary education in Brandon.
In 1942 he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served during the Second World War until discharged in the spring of 1946. In December, 1946 he re-enlisted as a Radar Technician and on December 4, 1946 he married Ethel Alberta Smith of Port Arthur, Ontario. Together they raised two children.
With the advent of the Korean War he was remustered back into flying and was one of the early instructors on the O.T.U. at North Bay on T33’s in 1952. He completed thirty years in the R.C.A.F. including a five year tour of duty with NATO in Europe.
He was dedicated to his flying career and to the Armed Forces, pausing only to work at the Flying Club teaching civilians the art of flying. Denny enjoyed skeet shooting and in his retirement years was an avid square dancer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, of nearly 59 years, children Ben (Deb) of Comox, British Columbia and Judy of Edmonton, Alberta. He had five grandchildren, Cara and Brian (Allison) Dennis, Hayley, James and Dan Migel. He also had two great grandchildren, Ashley and Jada Dennis.
He is also survived by siblings Jean Orr, Beryl Henders and sister-in-law Joyce Dennis, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ted in 2001.
Funeral will be held at White’s Funeral Home in Neepawa, Manitoba on Monday, October 10 at 10 a.m. followed by an interment service at Brookdale Cemetery. Arrangements in care of White’s Funeral Home.
Family and friends are invited to the Brookdale Community Hall following the interment.
