Frizzley, George Christopher
Sadly missed - A man greatly beloved
The world is a poorer place. George Frizzley passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2002. He made Campbell River his home for more than 50 years.
George will be sadly missed by Marge, his wife of 49 years, his sons: Ron (Natasha) and Joe (Donna), his grandchildren: Brendan, Jordan, Garrett, Jessica, and Jennifer, as well as his sisters: Ann, Phyllis, and Jean, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
George was a man greatly beloved. His courage, confidence and enthusiasm inspired everyone he met. He was gregarious, humorous and generous. He touched so many people of all ages.
George was born on November 3, 1924 in a farmhouse near Rosendale, Manitoba. After growing up on the farm and working in Atikoken, Ontario and Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, he moved to BC in 1950 to work in the construction industry. In 1951 he settled in Campbell River and married Marjorie Breckon on May 17, 1952.
George enjoyed nothing more than camping and fishing with his family. He loved Campbell River and influenced many friends and relatives to relocate here. He served as vice chair of the Willow Point Parks Board, minor hockey coach and divisional manager, and director of CRTV for over 10 years. George was also active in the Eagles, the Ratepayer Society and the Upper Island Racing Association.
He had many successful careers as an airport fireman, open pit miner, operating engineer, heavy-duty mechanic, mine superintendent and businessman. Fighting the 1956 Argonaut forest fire, he earned the nickname of “Fearless” when he drove a bulldozer through the flames near Upper Quinsam Lake in order to build a firebreak.
Special thanks to all the emergency people who tended to Dad at the end.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 PM at the Ocean Crest Community Church, 291 MacLean Street, with refreshments to follow at the Eagles Hall, 1999 14th Avenue, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s name to the Heart and Stroke Fund. Sutton’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
