In loving memory ~

Born in Cumberland, Gary passed away surrounded by family after a long battle with Cancer. Gary is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Myrna, this past April. He is also predeceased by his grandson Marty Jr., great grandson Kristian, Father Walter, Parents Andrew and Ethel Bates, Sister Dorothy (Satch), Brothers Bob, Leslie, Ernie & Fred (Barb). He is survived by his children Marty (Laura), Cathy (Barry), Lloyd (Pam), Gary Jr (Mimi) and Geraldine (Aaron), his sisters; Lynne, Bettyann, and Kathleen, Brothers; Andy, John, Gord, and Doug. Gary also leaves behind Grandchildren Joan, Kyle, Josh, Kris, Barb, Ashley, Joel, Justin, Travis, Jacob, and Aleasha and 22 great grandchildren.

Gary's best years were those at the Courtenay Fish and Game. He and Myrna stayed as Camp host until they could no longer.

His Family would like to thank the many doctors along the way that kept Gary going strong, the staff at CVH, Dr. Aaron Clark and especially Dr, Graham Hatlelaid. A special thank you to Bettyann for help in caregiving of Gary and the Comox Valley Nurses. Gary's Celebration of Life will be held at Courtenay Fish and Game at 3780 Colake Rd. on November 9th starting at 1 pm.
