Playter, Gale Mary
(Tressel)
Sept 10, 1944 - Apr 6, 2006
It is with immense sadness
that we announce the passing of our Mom, Gale Playter
(Tressel) at her home in Comox following a valiant 16 month battle with cancer.
Gale was predeceased by her father Ross Playter (Feb 1945), her dad Erwin Cook (2004), 2 brothers-in-law Herb & John, and 3 sets of grandparents.
She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her 4 children: Cinda (Brian), Stephen (Leanne), David (Claudia), and Jennifer (Travis); 7 grandchildren: Michael, Sean, Kaila, Daniel, Nicolas, Kamryn and Nathan; cherished and much loved best friend Len; her mom Mary; 2 sisters Carol & Sharon; 2 brothers Gary (Betsy) & Bryan (Geri); her beloved Tressel family and the father of her children, Reg. Also many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gale worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital from April 1980 until her much deserved retirement in November of 2004.
She will be forever remembered for her never-ending love and devotion to her children, grandchildren, family and friends, her beautiful smile and marvelous sense of humor, her motherly advice (asked for or not), the uncanny ability she had to find anything one may (or may not) have needed for a bargain at the Sally Anne and her amazing strength and extraordinary courage during the last four months of her life.
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little - but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me - but let me go.
The family wish to extend a special thank you to Dr. D. Weins, the wonderful home care nurses, Chaplain Gordon Carter and all the family and friends who brought mom great comfort in her final days. In keeping with Gale’s wishes, there will be a cremation with no service. Flowers gratefully declined; donations in mom’s memory can be made to the BC Cancer Society volunteer drivers, the BC Cancer Society or the Chemo Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
“All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.”
