Norton, Frederick (Fred) Wallace

passed away very peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox on the evening of September 7th in his 86th year with family present. Retired RCAF and longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Pre-deceased by his wife Edith, father James Alfred, mother Dorothy, sisters Elaine & Irene and nephew Jamie Vanclieaf. Survived by his children Wayne (Val) Norton, Wendy (Shan) Norton, Jude (Steve) Johnson; his grandchildren Dana (Jill) Norton, Jade (Bill) Norton, Corey (Mindy) Nixon, James (Jen) Nixon, Shawn Nixon; his great grandson Tyler Nixon; his sister Verna (Vern) Vanclieaf; his nephews Dale and Barry Vanclieaf and great niece Danielle and great nephew Jordan and his adopted family Lum, Thuy, Tiffany & Victoria Vo.

A Memorial Service was held at the Salvation Army in Courtenay on Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m. and at the Salvation Army Citadel in Bracebridge, Ontario on Wednesday, September 14th at 1:30pm.

Serving with RCAF, his favourite posting being Scotland, he semi-retired to Comox in 1969 where he drove school bus and worked in the Legion office. He returned to his birthplace in Bracebridge, Ontario in 1986 where he is the founding member of his beloved church. Fortunately he felt well enough to make the journey west to spend his last year with his family and friends here.
