Robins, Frederick James
1904 - 2003
Frederick James Robins died on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Laurel Lodge in his 100th year. Born 1904 in Bournemouth, England, he was the second of five children of Samuel and Annie (Nelson) Robins. The family came to Vancouver in 1913. For over sixty years, “Freddie” directed Camp Kolaree in the Kootenays. During World War II, he served in the Canadian Army at Camp Borden. In 1946, he married Lois Pegg of Vancouver; they moved to Trail where Fred worked for Cominco. Fred was predeceased by his wife Lois, brothers Nelson and Jack and sister Mabel. He is survived by his sister Gladys Ryan of Vernon, and two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Robins of Vancouver Washington and Aurelia Robins of Courtenay. He is also survived by niece Judy Hagen and family and numerous other nieces and nephews. Fred and Lois were not blest with children but had the love of thousands of campers!
