Frederick Gordon Hughes, aged 75 of Comox, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, September 22nd, 2002.

Predeceased by his parents Frederick Charles and Stella and brother-in-law William Emslie, Fred is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Maureen; son Randy (Frederick R). and wife Wendy; grandchildren: Nathan, Carmel and Charis Ester; sister Joyce Emslie of Comox; sister-in-law Rhoda Collins of Courtenay; and his many nieces and nephews.

Fred served with the Canadian Army from December 1944 to September 1945 and with the Royal Canadian Navy from May of 1948 to July of 1953. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 35 years and retired in 1990 from B.C. Ferries. Fred will be remembered by friends and family for his talents as an accomplished woodworker and carver. Models of his ships will be displayed in the Courtenay Museum in the near future.
