Frank McLeod Willis

March 11, 2003

Willis, Frank (Willie) McLeod

Born on October 1, 1918, in Nashwaaksis, NB, and passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2003, with his family by his side, following a dignified and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Willie was predeceased by his eldest brother William (Bill) Willis and a grandson, Duncan Kyle Willis. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte (Hon) Willis, his children Gary F. (Linda) Willis, Judy (Bill Quigg) Couper, Brian R. (Lynda) Willis, Margot (Bruce) Rutherford (all residiing in the Comox Valley), 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and brothers Robert (Edna) Willis and Clarence Willis.

When he was quite young, Willie moved with his family to Saskatoon, SK and later lived with his uncle, Byron Henderson, on his farm near Conquest, SK. On February 6, 1942, Willie joined the R.C.A.F. and was stationed at Summerside, PEI, where he met Hon and married her on July 22, 1944. They moved to Vancouver in 1945, where Dad worked as a carpenter. Hon and Willie moved to the Comox Valley in 1968.

Dad loved to visit his friends who own farms in the Comox Valley, especially Jim Casanave, and to chat with the librarians at the Courtenay Library, and the staff of the many stores in town that he frequented. He took great delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

Sincere thanks to Dr. Steve Millar and the home care workers and nurses of the Vancouver Island Health Authority and People at Home for their wonderful care of both Hon and Willie in their home. COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD, entrusted with memorial arrangements which will be announced at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made in Dad’s name to the Comox Valley Pipe Band Society, a registered charity, at P.O. Box 1285, Comox, BC V9N 7Z8.
