Frances Mary Shepherd died May 19, 2003 in Glacier View Lodge, Courtenay, B.C.
Born in Toronto, Ontario on September 2, 1913 to Francis Ernest Bolt and Mary (Were) Bolt, Frances Mary Shepherd grew up on a farm in Dafoe, Saskatchewan. Frances married William Morgan Shepherd of Moosomin, Saskatchewan on November 5, 1938 and moved first to Port Alberni and then to the Comox Valley in 1941. Frances and Morgan had two children, Francis James Shepherd and Elizabeth Eileen (Shepherd) Slater.
Frances was very involved in the Women’s Institute and was a founding member of the Lazo Women’s Institute. She was very involved in the building of the original Glacier View Lodge. She enjoyed crafts of many different kinds.
Husband, Morgan in 1997, her parents and two infant brothers predeceased Frances. Half-sister, Jean Elizabeth Bolt in 1992 and half-brother, Donald Ernest Bolt, also predeceased her in 2002.
Surviving family are: son, Frank Shepherd and wife Jean; grandson, John Shepherd and wife Barbara and great grandchildren, Cole and Justin, all of Courtenay; grandson, James Shepherd and wife Lisa and great grandchildren, Matthew and Danielle of Victoria; and daughter, Beth Slater and husband Eugene; grandson Daniel Slater and wife Teena and great grandchildren, Coltton and Bree; and granddaughter Kerri Slater and partner Shane Churchill of Port McNeill. Also surviving is half-sister, Edith Lillan Blythe (Bolt) of Ottawa, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Diabetic Society in honour of Frances.
