Stevens, Frances Joan
Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Joan, loving wife of Robert. Dear mother of Joe (Christena) Stevens of Courtice, Eric (Shirley) Stevens of Colorado Springs, U.S.A., Susan (Max) Hearne of Sidney, Australia and Peter (Sherry) Stevens of Ottawa. Cherished grandmother of Patrick, Shawn, Ashley, Rhys, Allana, Matthew and Andrew. Joan was a prolific painter, producing dozens of nature paintings. She was often Rules Chairperson at Sunny dale Golf Course in Courtenay, B.C. and swung a mean club herself. Her gardens covered 2 acres all told, with the asparagus patch alone being literally 50 feet square. The rose garden was 200 square feet. She was vice President of Comox Legion Branch 160 and chaired the Poppy Committee for many campaigns. A devout Anglican and accomplished seamstress, she made full vestments for 3 padres. She was an air force bride and lived across Canada, and finally settled in Courtenay, B.C. A stroke in 1995 slowed her down a bit, but another in January 2005 claimed her right arm and speech. She moved to Hillsdale Estates in October 2005 to be closer to her family and was well received in her short stay there. She will be fondly remembered. . . A special thank you to the chaplains and nursing staff at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa and the caring staff at Hillsdale Estates.
