Zerkee, Evelyn May
Sept 13, 1918 - Oct 7, 2005
Our sister and aunty Evelyn has passed into the hands of her precious Lord. Evelyn was born in Westbourne, Manitoba and grew up there, as well as in Northern Saskatchewan. She moved with her parents, brothers and sister to Dove Creek in 1938.
Evelyn spent all of her working years as a housekeeper here and on the Mainland. She said just last week that housekeeping on Denman’s ‘Lone Pine Farm’ was “by far the best job I ever had”. She had warm memories of her daily work there and the close connections she made with the Wright family. When Evelyn retired in 1974, she was able to put her handy skills to work for herself. She loved working outdoors with her very green thumbs. She also sewed many of her own clothes, (without patterns!). The sweaters and matching hats that she knitted were as bright as her smile.
Evelyn was a very devoted Christian. She had numerous connections in the community and all over the world in this regard. Of late, she had a very special church family at the Comox Gospel Assembly.
She is predeceased by her brothers Alfred and Leonard and by her sister Edith. Evelyn is survived by her brothers: Gilbert (Nita), Earl (Maura), Ernie (Sylvia), William (Selma), and their families. She is also survived by her Comox Valley nephews Charlie and Edward and niece Jean and their families. There are many out-of-town nieces and nephews and their families. Too many to list, she was Aunty to us all.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 1:30pm at the Courtenay fellowship Baptist Church, 2963 Lake Trail Road. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations to the Gideon’s Bible Society, 668 - 14th Street, Courtenay, BC, V9N 1W6, would be appreciated.
