Smith, Evelyn Frances
January 29, 1912 -
August 2, 2004
Evelyn Frances Smith was born in Cranbrook, B.C. on January 29, 1912 and passed away in Comox Hospital on August 2, 2004 in her 93rd year. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Percy and Julia Owen; and by her husband Wilfred Richard Smith in 1987; 2 brothers: Jack and Stan, as well as a sister (Elsie) Curly Hamilton.
She is survived by 3 sisters: Eileen (Phillip) Richardson (White Rock), Anne Dark (Victoria) and Edith (Jim) Albrecht (Comox); sister-in-law Gladys Owen (Stan) (Ladysmith); daughter Eileen (Ken) Carson (Courtenay); and 2 sons: Richard (Dianne) Smith (North Vancouver) and David (Shirley) Smith (Comox); as well as numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In 1922 the Owen family moved to the Comox Valley and several years later she married Wilfred Smith. They settled on the present homestead at Little River where Evelyn worked tirelessly on the family farm. She was a prize winning avid gardener, as well as a “ribbon-winning” cook - attested to by the many prizes she won at the Comox Valley Fall Fair for over 60 years!
She will be deeply missed by the many relatives, neighbours and close friends, who gathered daily at “Granny’s Tea House” at the Beach, for tea and “homemade goodies”.
A Celebration of Evelyn’s Life will be held at Comox United Church on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 1:00 pm.
All Relatives and Friends are cordially invited.
