Ahern, Emma May
Emma Mae Ahern, born November 24th, 1906 in Nova Scotia and died January 27th, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The oldest of 7 children, Emma moved with her family to B.C. prior to World War I. Following the war her father, Dick Isenor, took up property in the War Veterans Settlement of Merville. For many years Emma was a mainstay on the farm until her marriage to Henry Parkin of Headquarters, B.C. Upon his death she later married Jack Ahern of Oyster Bay. During their years of marriage Emma owned and operated the Big Rock Store in Campbell River , the Courtenay Bakery and the 100 Mile House CafŽ. Later they moved to a farm in the Peace River District of B.C., then retired to Penticton. Upon Jack’s death Emma returned to Courtenay in 1989, living in Park Place until entering the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1997. During her years in the care unit, she was kindly treated by all staff members who often got her to sing solo the old favorite songs of her time. Emma was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Isenor and Alice Filbey, by her brother John Isenor, as well as her parents Mary and Dick Isenor. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Carter of Comox, Janet Vaughan of Victoria and her brother Dick Isenor of Merville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to PIERCY’S FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORIUM. Donations made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Institute for the Blind would be appreciated. There will be no service held at this time.
