Mrs. Emma Elizabeth Benjamin
(Hackl)
Passed away gently in the evening of May 31st, 2004, at the age of 82. Eldest child of George and Mary Hackl, she was born in Humbolt, Saskatchewan, on January 28th, 1922. Emma met and married her loving husband of 54 years, Arthur Theodore Benjamin (Wagosh-Fox) in Sudbury, Ontario. Ten years later, in 1952, they moved west to Texada Island and eventually retired to Vancouver Island. Predeceased by Arthur in 1996, Emma has since lived with her daughter Beverly-Ann and family in Courtenay. She is remembered by brothers Earl, Archie and Gary, sisters Helen, Eileen, and Bernice; her four children Diane (Ray), Wayne, Shirley (Gene), and Beverly-Ann; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family in the west and in the province of Ontario; and many dear friends. She will be missed as the dearly loved matriarch of the family. Brothers George, Roger, and Orville; sister Madeline and some extended family predecease her. Emma was dedicated to her family, raising her children and ensuring a wholesome place in the community. With her positive attitude she could move mountains to attain the needs of her family and/or community. She was a member of the Royal Purple, the PTA, and served for many years as president of the Catholic Women’s League. Her effervescent personality and her gift of conversation made her a natural sales person. She always had a sales network and her customers looked forward to her friendly visits. She was a lady with a capital “L” and always looked and dressed “like a million”.
There will be a celebration of her life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th, at the home of her youngest daughter, Beverly-Ann Fox.
