Bowmer, Elsie
1915 - 2003
Elsie, aged 88, a resident of the Extended Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2nd, 2003. Predeceased by her husband Ernest John Bowmer, M.D., in 2001, daughter Gretta in 1967, as well as sisters: Mary Denson, Winnifred Williamson, Dorothy Gee, and Joan Gee, she is survived and will be lovingly missed by her son Ian (Nancy) Bowmer of Comox; grandchildren Andy (Wendy) and Shad; sister Clara Clough in England; her nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Elsie spent her early years in Cheshire, England. She was part of a loving family of seven siblings. In 1940 she married Ernest and had a son, Ian, in 1941 and a daughter, Gretta (deceased 1967) in 1947. Elsie, Ernest and the children moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1956. Elsie was a devoted wife and mother and gave freely of her time as a volunteer to numerous charitable organizations including I.O.D.E., the Cancer Institute, and St. Mary’s Church (Kerrisdale). She loved gardening, bird watching, bike riding and enjoyed curling at the Arbutus Club.
A Service of Remembrance will be held in Vancouver at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD.
