MCKIERAHAN, Elizabeth Mae (Betty)
May 1, 1921 – March 18, 2006
Betty McKierahan passed away on March 18, 2006 at the James Bay Lodge in Victoria, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and son Michael, and is survived by her sons Sean (Kathy) in Nanaimo, Angus (Sheila) in Nelson, grandchildren Tara (Edmonton), Connor (Victoria), Ian (Wollongong, Australia), and sisters-in-law Emma and Kathleen.
Betty was born in Toronto but raised mostly in New Westminster, B.C. In her early years she became a gifted musician and studied for some time at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. She developed a lifelong passion for music of all kinds and spent many hours studying, teaching and enjoying the musical accomplishments of others. Betty became a social worker first through her work in a settlement house in Toronto, and spent most of her adult life providing social work services in a number of communities. As a young social worker in Prince George in the 1940’s she met and eventually married her husband Edward.
Betty was passionate about music, art, great books, gardening and of course people. In retirement she pursued these interests with great joy and in particular enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends in Victoria, Duncan and Courtenay.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Thursday, March 23rd at 2:00pm at the First Memorial Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria.
