Edward Devitt

Ed passed away surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, February 15, 2002. Ed was born in South Vancouver on September 16, 1919 and joined the army at the age of 19. He served in World War II with the Seaforth Highlanders. When he returned from Europe, Ed settled in Powell River where he worked in several departments in the Powell River Mill and spent many years as supervisor on the wharf at MacMillan Bloedel before retiring.

Ed’s wife Evelyn predeceased him in 1993. He is survived by his daughter Linda Devitt (John) and son, Leslie Devitt (Debra) as well as his only remaining sibling, Bertha Tuhten of Powell River. He will also be missed by Evie’s children Matt, Willie, Chris, Marilyn, Shelly, Cathy and Patty. Between them, Ed and Evie had fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Linda and Les would like to thank Ed’s devoted grandaughter Ona, Pearl Frazer, the home support workers, community nurses and the hospice volunteers who supported Dad and Linda in the last week of Ed’s life at home. You were awesome!

Close companions in Ed’s last years were his loyal four-legged friend, Shadow and Scooter. Dad has found peace at last and rejoined his beloved travelling partner, Evie. Linda and John will miss him daily.

Family and friends will gather at picnic site number 2 at Rathtrevor Beach to celebrate Ed’s life on Saturday, March 30. Donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Hospice Society.

Have a good trip Dad!
