E. Ruth Gregory

1927-2005

Ruth passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox B.C. on September 22, 2005 after a lengthy illness with cancer. Her loving husband Merrill was by her side. She was born in Stockton, Manitoba; attended school in Glenboro, Manitoba; and later entered the teaching profession. Ruth was fortunate in her choice of profession and her choice of husband Merrill (in the RCAF) which enabled her to teach and enjoy travelling to many places in Canada and Europe. After living in the Comox Valley for a number of years in the mid-sixties, Ruth knew this would be home-she returned in 1975.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Merrill, her son Blaine, his wife Kathryn and granddaughter Alyssa, along with many family members too numerous to mention. Ruth always had a ready sense of humour, a cheerful smile and an optimistic happy outlook on life. We will all miss her dearly.

Our gratitude and heartfelt thanks go out to the many people who helped make Ruth’s passing more bearable, to mention a few-Dr. David Bowler; the nurses and staff of the third floor who showed such kindness and compassion to Ruth and her family during her last days; the Comox Valley Hospice Society; the Vancouver Island Home Care; the ParaMedics; Gordon Carter (St. Joseph’s Chaplain), who provided comfort; and the many friends and neighbours who were so kind and supportive to Ruth and her family.

A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 2:00 p.m. from Piercy’s - Mount Washington Funeral Home and Crematorium, 440 England Avenue, Courtenay, B.C. Chaplain Gordon Carter officiating. Should friends wish, flowers or a donation to charity of choice would be appreciated.
