Wellock, Douglas Michael
With great sorrow we announce the sudden death of Douglas Michael Wellock on Thursday, January 26, 2006.
Doug was born in Rossland B.C. on December 31, 1943. He received his early education there, as well as his love of skiing and the outdoors. He was the Canadian National Junior Champion in both downhill and slalom in 1961. He was a member of Canada’s National Ski Team in 1962,63 but sacrificed his skiing in 1964 to attend the University of British Columbia. After graduating in Commerce, Doug entered the Federal Government Service in Ottawa and Calgary. Doug returned to U.B.C. in 1971, where he obtained his MBA. Doug lived and worked in Jasper National Park until his retirement in 1997. He particularly enjoyed his retirement in his true home, Jasper, and hoped that he could have, in his words, “lived like that indefinitely”.
Doug is survived by his parents, Rachel and Michael Wellock, formerly of Rossland, now of Courtenay, his sister Louise Bustard (Robert), nephews Jeffrey and Stephen of Courtenay, his former partner and good friend Ruth Remple of Jasper, his beloved dog, Katie, and many relatives and close friends.
We would like to thank those friends and colleagues of Doug’s who did so much to help, especially during the last few months.
If desired, donations can be made to Friends of Jasper Park, Jasper, AB, T0E 1E0 or to the SPCA at any location.
A Service celebrating Doug’s life was held on Tuesday January 31 at the Sawridge Inn in Jasper
