Doug passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family. He is predeceased by his father, Lorne. Survived by his wife Rhonda, sons Sean, Tavis, and Keegan, his mother, Barbara, and sisters Susan (Brian) and Debbie (Al); nieces and nephews: Jim, Kevin, Kiel, Sheldon, Travis, Stacey, Melanie, Mark, Darren, Ron and Farrah.
Doug was born in Sudbury, Ontario, grew up in Thompson, Manitoba, and moved to Port McNeil in 1980 with Rhonda. He acquired a log scaling license in 1981, created McGinn Log Scaling in 1985 en route to Sewell Inlet, and landed in the Comox Valley in 1986.
Doug was a loving husband and father, an avid gourmet chef and an experienced and natural downhill skier. He was a popular and enthusiastic football coach for the Comox Valley Raider PeeWees and the Junior Bantam Road Warriors. Doug loved travelling and was especially drawn to Jamaica. Recently he developed a love of sailing and spent most of last summer on the water.
The family invites you to celebrate Doug’s life at an outdoor service on Air Force Beach, 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 3rd. Reception to follow (please bring a lawn chair). In the event of stormy weather, the service will be held at Comox Presbyterian Church, 725 Aspen.
