Douglas Eric Newson passed away on Monday, November 3rd, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox at age 95. Doug was predeceased by Mildred, his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by Margaret Newson; sons: Doug (Pat) Newson of Courtenay, Bryan Newson of Vancouver; grandchildren: Gary Newson of Duncan, Diana (Dave) Wood of Vancouver, Emily Newson of Montreal, Adlai and Oren Newson of Vancouver; great-grandchildren Nathan and Zoe. Together with many nieces and nephews. Doug was involved in the community and contributed in many ways; Alderman for the Town of Comox, Chairman of the School Board of Courtenay, President of the Navy League of Canada, worked with the Comox Fire Department, and was a lifetime member of the Sunnydale Golf Club. Doug was a man of many talents: a logger, housebuilder, painter, merchant, and most of all loved to deal with people, “a real people person”. Doug loved fishing and gardening and was an excellent golfer. He won the “Island Championship” on a couple of occasions. He will be ever loved and terribly missed by all who knew him. A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of Doug’s Life will take place on Friday, November 7th, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, COURTENAY. Flowers are welcome and donations to the S.P.C.A., 1668 Ryan Road, Comox, B.C. V9N 8N6, in Doug’s memory would be appreciated.
