Dorothy Olson
1928-2003
Born Climax, Sask, August 8, 1928, passed away July 6, 2003 after a very long and courageous battle with cancer.
Her strength and determination to overcome this decease was an inspiration to all who knew her and especially to her husband and family, during this battle. She touched many hearts.
Predeceased by her parents Florence and Bill Barnes and sister Winnie Corbett, she is survived by her loving husband Ken, son Jodi (Kim), Moncton, NB, six stepchildren, Sherrill (Toronto), Brian (Sharon), Blind River, Ont., Darren (Shiela), Halifax, NS, Terri (Harold) North Bay, Ont., Patti (Rick), North Bay, Ont., Kim (Ray), Ft. McMurray, Alta. 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Also brother Ed, Surrey, BC, sister Betty, New Westminster, BC, sister Jean Shaunavon, Sask.
Dorothy served in the RCAF 1952-1958 as a medical assistant and continued in that field of nursing until 1979, in various hospitals across Canada and then worked as a part time postal worker until moving to the Comox Valley in 1989. She made friends very easily because of her sincere understanding of others, always willing to lend a hand to those in need and her devoted dedication to always looking at the bright side of life, even in her most trying and difficult times.
A Service of Remembrance in Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 2:00 p.m. from COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 1101 RYAN ROAD with Chaplain Gordon Carter officiating. For those wishing, donations in her memory to the Comox Valley Hospice Society, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, B.C. V9M 1P2 or the B.C. Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, B.C. V8R 6V5 would be appreciated.
