Dorothy Allen

1906 ~ 2002

Dorothy known to her friends as “Dolly”, passed away peacefully, December 12, 2002 in respite care at Glacier View Lodge. She was born in New Westminster, B.C. July 7, 1906. Predeceased by her husband John; 5 sisters: Katie, Fannie, Pearl, Myrtle and Lily; grandchildren: John, Rhonda and David. Survived by one sister Ruby Rhodes of Gibsons, BC; 5 daughters: Lauretta (Mike) Smith, Phyllis (Jerry) Carter, Hazel (Frank) Wilson, Beverley (Ron) Johnston, Jeannette (Alan) Thomson; 22 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren. Dolly was married for 76 years when her husband John passed away in June of 2001. They lived in and maintained their own home until that time and she continued to do so with the full time companionship of her daughter Jeannette. Dolly was a homemaker and devoted her life to John and raising her family. She often reminisced about her garden, travelling throughout B.C. and her homes in Ladner, Terrace and Sooke, BC before moving to the Comox Valley in 1990. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and proudly proclaimed, “I came from a family of 7 girls and had 5 daughters of my own.”. Dolly was a kind and gentle lady who loved life. All who knew and loved her will sadly miss her. A Celebration of Dolly’s life took place on Monday, December 16, 2002 from the Chapel of Piercy’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
