Fraser, David Stirling

1925 ~ 2004

David Fraser, of Denman Island, died peacefully in his sleep at age 78, on May 31, 2004, at the home of his daughter Louise Fraser, in Royston. With him at his bedside were his wife Helen, and their four children Stirling, Patricia, Louise and Margaret. David lived on Denman for more than 25 years and, until developing Parkinson’s disease, was very involved in many valley community and environmental issues. To be called an “environmentalist” was a badge of honour for him. Born in Osoyoos in 1925, he grew up in Vancouver. After joining the Merchant Marine in World War II and serving in the Atlantic and Pacific, he returned to Vancouver in 1945 and graduated from UBC in 1949. A teacher for most of his working life, David was also for many years a very active member of the NDP. Along with his immediate family he is survived by his two brothers Alan and Michael, his 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A memorial service and celebration will be held on Denman Island at the Community Hall on Friday, June 11, commencing at 3:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Denman Island Conservancy.
