Clements, David George

1939 - 2003

Dave Clements passed away suddenly at home on his farm on Tuesday, January 7, 2003. Dave was a gentle and caring man with an engaging smile and a twinkle in his eye. He most enjoyed life on the farm be it working on his beloved raspberries or terrorizing the neighborhood on his yellow skidder.

Dave is survived by his mother, Marjorie (Davis), sister Susan (Murray) Martin, wife of 43 years Marilyn (Ball), sons Geoff (Lynne) and Owen (Ann) and four grandchildren Katelyn, Stephanie, Kyra and Isaac.

Dave was born in Nanaimo on May 29, 1939. He moved to Courtenay in 1951 and resided with his family on Leighton Avenue. He became trained as an elementary school teacher and taught for 29 years mostly in the Comox Valley. He was well remembered by ex-students and teachers who remember an energetic, caring teacher.

Upon retirement from teaching in 1995, Dave really went to work. He developed a large raspberry business supplying the valley with juicy red raspberries. He became affectionately known as the “Raspberry Man” and could be seen most Saturdays at the Farmer’s Market talking to people about his berries. When there was a break from berries, Dave and Marilyn were travelling the world. New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and Europe were some of their latest adventures. Dave loved fly fishing and his family and lived life to its fullest. He will be sorely missed by his shocked and devastated family.

A Memorial Service will be held at Comox Valley Funeral Home in Courtenay on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to, may make donations in Dave’s name to The President of Oyster River Enhancement Society, Box 93, Black Creek, B.C. V9J 1K8
