In loving memory ~

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Charles Autio after battling a lengthy illness on February 15, 2025.

Born in Sault St. Marie, Ontario to Helen and Ahti Autio, Dave grew up in the small community of Wabos, Ontario with his brother Billy. Joining the Army in 1969, Dave was posted to Victoria, B.C. After serving his time with the PPCLI, he joined the carpentry apprentice program and worked for several construction companies eventually becoming a superintendent with Canpro Construction for many years. A skilled and gifted carpenter by trade, Dave won several carpentry contests including the international carpentry contest in Philadelphia where he won second place for North America.

At home, Dave was our very own 'MacGyver'. Dave could make, fix, carve and build anything. He was a solid, honest, hardworking man with a good heart. He had many friendships over the years and was always the first to show up if someone was in need. Dave will be missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by parents Helen and Ahti, Stepfather George Savela, sister-in-law Brenda Autio, nephew Jack Autio and grandson Lance Brouse.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Carole (McKay-Brouse), and his feline companion Louie. Children Wally Brouse (Carolin), Barry Brouse, Debbie Brouse & Catherine Gudbranson (Gord). Grandchildren Leah Brouse, Brooke Gudbranson (Bryson), twins Adam Gudbranson & Bryden Gudbranson and great granddaughter Abbigail Brouse. Dave is also survived by his brother Billy Autio, niece Beth Autio, nephew Josh Autio, many cousins and extended family in Ontario and B.C.

Special thanks to the Oyster River volunteer fire department, BC Ambulance service, and the compassionate nurses and doctors in 3B wing at North Island Campbell River Hospital who cared for Dave during his final days. Thankyou also to Dr. Curtis and specialist Dr. Lam at the BC kidney transplant clinic for the years of care.

A Private service will be held at a later date.
