Curly (Elsie Florence) Hamilton
1914 - 2004
Mom passed away peacefully on February 9, 2004, after a courageous 90-year battle arguing about almost everything. She was predeceased by her patient, loving husband Douglas, eldest daughter Frances Tarkanen and survived by son Alex (Judi) of Comox, daughters Patricia Schmidt of Comox and Phyllis (Doug) Banks of Tofino. Also survived by sisters Evelyn Smith & Edith (Jim) Albrecht of Comox, sisters Eileen (Philip) Richardson of White Rock, Anne Dark of Victoria, sisters-in-law Dulcie Hamilton of Courtenay and Gladys Owen of Ladysmith, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and too many nieces and nephews to mention.
Curly came to the Comox Valley at the age of seven with her family. She was one “feisty” lady, and called herself the rebel of the family. She became a registered nurse in 1936 and married that same year at Little River. She worked with the blood donors clinic for many years, Elections Canada and was a diligent dancing teacher at the Old Time Dances while Dad played the violin. She loved a good argument, especially about politics, schools and bridge. Bingo was a passion as was the water from her spring. She had a heart of gold, a full life and was, in her own words, “ready to kick the bucket!”
Thanks to all the caring people at Stevenson’s Place in Comox, St. Joseph’s Hospital’s 3rd floor and extended care unit and finally Dr. Tancon and his locum. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A service will be held Saturday, February 21st, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Comox United Church, 250 Beach Drive.
