Claude Banford Howard passed away peacefully in Comox, B.C. on March 2nd, 2005 aged 84 years. He was predeceased by his parents Banford and Marie, his brothers Earl and Gordon, his sister Violet, and his brother-in-law Raymond Baldry.
Claude is survived by his wife Iva (of Glacier View Lodge); his sons: Jim (Diane) of Royston and Bill (caregivers Roland and Cori Emery) of Royston; his daughter Lauretta (Raymond Dyer) of Port Alberni; his grandchildren: Mirranda, Alexander, Nicholas, Bevin and Tamara; and his great-granddaughter Paige. He also leaves to mourn, his brothers: William (Mervyne) of Richmond and Lester of Burnaby; his sister Yvonne (Joe Koslowski) of Calgary; his brother-in-law William (Kathleen) Baldry of Surrey; his sisters-in-law: Vivian Howard of Coquitlam and Betty Baldry of Campbell River; as well as, 15 nieces and nephews and their families. He was a member of the Royston Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #17 in Courtenay. Claude moved his family to the Island in 1954. As a butcher/meatcutter he worked for the original Laver’s store in Campbell River, Union Bay store and Syd Dauncey’s meat market. For many years the family operated “Howard’s Mariner” restaurant in Oyster Bay. Since 1968 he, Iva and Bill have been residing in the Comox Valley. He was proud to be a charter member of the Royston’s Lions Club. For most of his life he was very active in various crib clubs and in seniors curling. Besides family, fishing and travelling his retirement years were happily spent in his Royston garden. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Beaufort Association - Quest Program, 536B - 5th Street, Courtenay, B.C. V9N 1K3 would be appreciated. A Memorial Tea and Maple Leaf Tribute is to be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #17, 367 Cliffe Ave., Courtenay on Saturday, March 12th, 2005 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
