Masson, Clair Roger Joseph
September 15th, 1936 -
January 19th, 2004
Roger passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox after courageous battles with illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Bonnie, sons: Steven (Kelly) and Brian (Tanis) and his 3 grandchildren: Jeremy, Alexandra, and Lauren. He also leaves his 3 sisters: Dora, Yvette, and Lynn, as well as many other family members and friends. Roger was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Marie and his brother Don. Roger was born in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan and his family moved to Port Alberni in 1941 where he spent his school years. In 1955, he joined the R.C.A.F. and served for 20 years as an instrument technician. His most special postings were in France, from which he saw many parts of Europe, in Summerside, P.E.I., where he was married and his sons were born and in Comox, where he returned to his roots. Upon retiring from the service in 1975, he became a full time furniture mover in Courtenay until his retirement in 2000. Once retired, Roger pursued his lifelong joy of fly fishing and from that developed his interest in the Oyster River Enhancement Society. His dedication to the society and its goals was always evident. Even while ill he visited the hatchery, spending time with other society members whom he would consider his extended family. Roger showed true passion for his task. Whether it was for work, to help someone in need or get a smile. And always made the greatest efforts for his grandchildren, whom he adored. Special thanks to Dr. Fitzpatrick, Dr. Engman, Dr. Young, and to the nursing staff in I.C.U. at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 23rd, 2004 at PIERCY’S - MT. WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 440 ENGLAND AVE., Courtenay. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made to the Oyster River Enhancement Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home.
