Klein-Beekman, Christopher
Sept. 1971 ~ Aug. 2003
On August 19th, 2003, our world collapsed when we received a phone call that our dearest son, brother (in-law) and uncle had been killed in a bomb explosion in Baghdad (Iraq). Christopher leaves behind his wife Ninakebede; parents John and Betsy; brother Mike (Anne-Lise) and his first nephew Christian John; Tante Jennie (Christine (Cees), Willem Jan (Monique) and their children); Ome Gerrit, Tante Gerda (Yvonne (Barry), Dini (Marco), Dick (Annemiek), and their children); other aunts, uncles and cousins in the Netherlands, Canada and Australia; and numerous friends, not only here, but all over the world.
Christopher graduated from Vanier in 1988, studied two years at North Island College, and then went on to the University of Victoria, where he received his bachelor degree with honours in sociology. He then went on to the Netherlands, studying International Relations and International Law. He received his master’s degree with honours from the University of Amsterdam in 1994.
In January 1997, Christopher set off for Ethiopia to begin his dream to work for Unicef, to help the children. After three years he left Ethiopia for Kosovo, where he worked for a year; then in May of 2002 he arrived in Baghdad, Iraq.
Funeral services for Christopher will be held on Sunday, August 31st, 2003 at 2:00 pm at the Comox Recreational Centre, 1855 Noel Avenue, Comox. In lieu of flowers, donations to Unicef Canada would be appreciated, so that Christopher’s legacy will live on. Piercy’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in care of funeral arrangements.
