Christina Anne Kennedy passed away peacefully at 89 years of age at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, B.C. on March 1, 2002. Chris was born in Cumberland Hospital on August 3, 1912 and was the eldest child of the pioneer family of Chris and Annie Carwithen. She lived in Hawaii for 54 years where she raised a family and worked many years for several businesses. During the attack on Pearl Harbour, Chris was a volunteer ambulance driver with The American Red Cross. She was an avid tennis player and loved to walk regularly. She spent many wonderful hours golfing with her husband Fred and son Rich at the Oahu Country Club. Her love of the outdoors is carried on by Rich who loves to bike and run. Chris had a strong independent spirit and will be missed by many.


Chris was predeceased by husband, Fred Kennedy, sister Margaret Woodrow, and brother Bud Carwithen.


She is survived by her son, Richard Kennedy of Denver, Colorado; brother Malcolm (Margo) Carwithen; and sisters: Morag Bowie of the Comox Valley and Anne (Bob) Rourke of Powell River; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.


The family sends a special thanks for the wonderful care Chris received at The Cumberland Health Centre and at St. Joseph’s Hospital.




Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7th, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Piercy’s Funeral Home on England Avenue in Courtenay.


In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Cumberland Health Centre or The Canadian Cancer Society.
