Willis, Charlotte Sadie (Hon)
1915 - 2003
Born on December 2, 1915, in Glenavon, Saskatchewan, and passed away peacefully the morning of August 30, 2003.
Charlotte was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Frank McLeod Willis, on March 11, 2003; her brothers: Frank, Al, Bill, and Doug Wortman; her eldest sister Marn Mowbray; and her grandson Duncan Kyle Willis. She is lovingly survived by her four children: Gary (Linda) Willis, Judy (Bill) Couper, Brian (Lynda) Willis, and Margot (Bruce) Rutherford, all residing in the Comox Valley; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Meechan, Ella Glover and Kay Veitch; and brothers: Harold and Dave Wortman; all of whom will miss her very much.
Charlotte (Hon) grew up on a large farm outside of Glenavon. After graduating from school, Charlotte moved to Vancouver with her sister Ruth. In 1943, Hon joined the R.C.A.F. and was stationed in Summerside, PEI, where she met Frank (Willie) and married him on July 22, 1944. After their marriage, Hon returned to Vancouver, had her children and then went to work in a real estate office where she got her Real Estate Agent’s license. Hon sold homes there and then in the Comox Valley after she and Willie moved here in 1968. She worked for several agencies in town until she finally retired in 1994. Hon was well-respected in the Real Estate community and made close friends with many of her co-workers and clients. Her great love was playing cards, especially bridge, where she attained her designation of Master in contract bridge.
Special thanks to Dr. John Penhall, Dr. John Graham and the staff of the Sunshine Lodge in Campbell River for their warm and genuine care of mom while she was with them for six weeks prior to her passing. A big thank you to all the wonderful home care workers of the V.I. Health Authority and People at Home who took such good care of mom at home, both before dad passed away and after. She appreciated you all so much. Many thanks also to the staff and residents of the Cumberland Intermediate Care facility for showing such concern for mom in the one month she was with you this Spring.
