September 5, 1954 - June 25, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Beth Ann Mitchell on June 25th, 2024 at the age of 69.
Survived by her sons Blair (Meghan), Robert (Katrina) and Zack. Her grandchildren Ethan and Violet, who she dearly loved to spend time with. Her sister Janie (Wayne) Farley of North Carolina, brother Curt (Ruth) Atkins of New Jersey and many cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Predeceased by the father of her children, Ross Mitchell, her sister Nancy, father Jack and most recently her mother Alberta who passed away in January of 2024 at the age of 98. For many years Beth and her mother still used the postal service to regularly mail each other cards and items.
Beth was born in Camden, New Jersey in 1954. She moved to Canada in 1977 after meeting Ross Mitchell in the town of Jerome, Arizona. She relocated to be on his family homestead and would enjoy making the Comox Valley her home for the remainder of her life.
She loved music, attending many rock concerts in Philadelphia in the 1970s. In July 1973 Beth was an attendee at the legendary Watkins Glen Summer Jam featuring Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band, with a crowd bigger than Woodstock. Another lifelong passion was her love of watching sports. A devoted enthusiast of her team Philadelphia Eagles, their big Super Bowl win of 2018 was a happy time for her and all her family back east. Beth enjoyed playing Scrabble and watching Jeopardy. She was extremely knowledgeable in many subjects and auditioned to be a Jeopardy contestant multiple times. She always celebrated the interests of her sons, such as taking Zack to a Beatles cover band for his first concert.
She loved picking berries out in Mitchell Woods. She mastered baking muffins, cookies and cobblers and would always make them for any occasion. She baked for everyone she loved, and it was something that brought our mother great joy. Beth loved watching birds and always kept a hummingbird feeder outside the window. She loved pets and was predeceased by her precious dog 'Mac.'
Beth, Ma, Grammy or Miss Red was a charismatic and thoughtful woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She was the best loving mother we ever could have had. A classy hippie, she will be greatly missed to say the least.
Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul...
We have lost a treasure in Beth Ann. We would like for all those who knew and loved her to join her family in celebrating the beautiful life of our dear Ma.
