Cox-Rogers, Bernard

1930 - 2005

Cox-Rogers, Bernard passed away peacefully on June 23, 2005 at the age of 75 in St. Joseph’s Hospital (Comox). Predeceased by his father Henry, mother Dorothy (nee: Yates) and second wife Donna. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth, first wife Audrey, son Steven (Marie), daughter Joanne (Brad), step-sons Eric (Sandra) and Brian (Angel) and seven loving grandchildren: Michael, Thomas, Nelson, Devon, Ryan, Brandon, and Carly. Born in London, England February 8, 1930 within earshot of Bow Bells, Bernie was one of the many thousands of children evacuated from London during World War II. He immigrated to Canada in 1955 and had a long and distinguished career in B.C. working as an electrical design engineer in Vancouver for several firms before moving to Courtenay in 1973. There he worked for the local School District as an electrician and later as Maintenance Superintendent until his retirement in April 1992. Along the way Bernie made many good friends and acquaintances. He also continued his passion for steelhead fishing along many favorite B.C. Rivers. Since retiring Bernie and Elizabeth lived life to the fullest and could often be found board their jam-packed yacht the “Margaret Renfrew” cruising and documenting their many adventures along the B.C. and Alaska coasts. They also spent many years building and improving their homestead in Courtenay (Dove Cottage) which they shared with their beloved cats Bill, Shedleana, and Jenny Ping. Dad will be sadly missed but always remembered by his family and many friends. Special and affectionate thanks to Dr. Tancon, Dr. Fehlau, Dr. Beristein, and the wonderfully compassionate 3rd floor nursing staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their kind and gentle care of Bernie the past few months. Private family service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation. Piercy’s - Mt. Washington Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
