In loving memory ~

After a full and happy life, it is with profound sadness and much love that our family announces the passing of Berenice, affectionately known as Gigi.

Berenice was the first baby born in Empress, AB's hospital. She was born to English immigrant parents Ezra and Charlotte, growing up with five older siblings and her cousin Billy. Berenice took much pleasure in learning, and although her parents hoped she would become a teacher, she "wanted to work with numbers". Upon graduating high school, Berenice moved to Victoria to study bookkeeping and shorthand at Sprott Shaw College, later working for the BC Telephone Company. Berenice lived much of her adult life in Victoria where she raised her children and was close to extended family before retiring and helping her husband build a home in the Comox Valley.

Berenice loved dancing, carpet bowling, and playing the piano and organ; she was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Victoria, Komoux, and Florence chapters). Her faith, zest for life, and sense of humour endeared her to those around her. Of the many things she gained and accomplished, Berenice found her greatest pride and purpose in her family.

Berenice is reunited in peace with her siblings George, Ernest, Arthur, Irene, and Violet, her son Dennis, brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Sharon, and her husband and love of her life, Graham. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter Lorraine and son-in-law John, as well as her grandchildren Teresa, Steven, Shelley, and Michael, and their spouses and partners. Her great-grandchildren, Michael, Richelle, Matthew, Cameron, Taylor, Soleil, Isaiah, Jacob, Evan, and Océanie, will cherish her memory alongside their partners; as will her numerous great-great-grandchildren, Haden, Hayley, Nolan, Graham, Finn, Jack, Bennett, Rinley, and Casey, who brought her much happiness. Berenice's legacy of love and joy continues through each generation, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Our gratitude extends to Dr. T. Nikova, NP. S. Finta, and the compassionate staff of Goldeneye at Ocean Front Village, as well as Lisa, Alex, Inge, Crystal, and all the healthcare professionals who cared for Berenice in her final years.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held. Those wishing to honour Berenice's memory may consider donating to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

When peace like a river attendeth my way,
